The performance of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in the Boxing Day fixture against West Bromwich Albion has seen him set a new pass record in the Premier League.

It was revealed by Whoscored after the 1-0 victory that the Swiss international who joined the Gunners from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer completed 135 out of 142 of his passes in that encounter, thus making himself the only player to have achieved such accuracy so far in the current campaign.

Arsenal's high rate possession gifted Xhaka the freedom to control play and he was able to make 152 touches from midfield - another notable record so far this season.

The 27-year-old also blew off Mesut Ozil's long ball distribution record by successfully making 11 out of 15.

Even though none of his passes directly led to the creation of chances, they were still of high importance being that with them, Arsenal were able to dominate all through.

Xhaka may not have done enough to become a household name at the Emirates Stadium since his arrival but the fact remains that he is a vital piece in the puzzle.
