The right-back will by the end of the present campaign become a free agent which means any of Galatasaray, Inter Milan or Manchester City who had been on the look out can get him for no cost. Previous meetings held did not yield positives because the Frenchman was not satisfied with the club's proposal. What Arsenal offered him was a year extension with no increase in his current wage but what Sagna wants is nothing less than a three year contract plus an improved pay.
Now that it seems the Gunners will definitely lose him if they do not dance to his tune, they are ready to do anything to please the 31-year old who recently publicized his love for the London outfit.
Even though other clubs have the freedom to talk to the defender, Wenger still believes Sagna will stay. He stated that reports claiming Manchester City had already made an offer was false and revealed they {Arsenal} have a bumper package for him.
Wenger said, “He (Sagna) has an offer, he has not come back to us yet. That (City offer) cannot be right because it's illegal.
"I'm confident he will stay but we will accept his decision. No matter what his decision will be, we will accept it and go on with it."
He also made it clear that Arsenal's habit of not giving over-30 aged players more than a year deal is something they could amend on some occasions as long as it will have a rewarding end.
Wenger continued, "Look not for the defenders no. It depends. It's a general law in our club yes. But after it's not a stupid law, we look at individual cases and we adapt it to the individuals."
This is a smart step by Arsenal. They themselves know how important it is to keep Sagna at the Emirates for a longer period. Losing a player of his calibre would definitely leave a loophole in the already united squad.
