The annual competition usually features three other teams who are invited to participate in the pre-season contest. Monaco from France, Benfica from Portugal and Valencia of Spain will be present in this year's edition. Each of the teams will play two matches after which a winner will emerge. Three points will be awarded for a win, one for a draw and one for every goal scored. If at the end of the second games teams have the same number of points and goal difference then shots on target will be put into consideration. The winner will then be presented with the Emirates Cup trophy.
The contest begins on Saturday August 2 with Valencia taking on Monaco by 2pm before Arsenal battle it out with Benfica at 4.20pm on the same day.
On Sunday it will be Benfiva vs Valencia by 2pm then Arsenal vs Monaco by 4.20pm.
Ivan Gazidis the Arsenal chief executive said, “We’re delighted to once again be hosting the Emirates Cup in August. This will be the seventh staging of the Emirates Cup and it has proved to be an overwhelming success and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend of football.
“Not only does the tournament offer supporters the first chance to see the team play at Emirates Stadium before the start of the new season, it will of course also provide a very competitive level of preparation for all the teams ahead of the 2014/2015 season.
“Emirates has been the proud sponsor of the Emirates Cup since the inaugural tournament in 2007 and we’re obviously delighted that Emirates are continuing their long-standing commitment to Arsenal Football Club through their support of this prestigious pre-season tournament.”
