First, it was Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona followed by the arrival of Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United. As at the last time I dropped a transfer update I made it clear that Arsenal will be announcing the capture of two other recruits this week and on Sunday and Monday respectively, David Ospina and Calum Chambers were officially unveiled on the club's website. Ospina is a Colombian goalkeeper who joined Arsenal from Nice while Chambers is a 19-year old England international from Southampton. The latter is a versatile player who can feature as a right-back, centre-defender and also as a midfielder. Not also forgetting Ospina’s outstanding performance during the World Cup in Brazil.
Four signings already! Some fans are satisfied. I know some of us are like "Even if Wenger does not bring in any other star, I am okay with the ones we have." but with revelations from sources close to the club, this is not the end of it all. We still have about three players who are on our radar. Real Madrid's Sami Khedira is one of them.
If you have closely followed transfer developments in recent weeks you should be aware of the Gunners' interest in 2014 World Cup Winner, Khedira. We were made to know that the only hindrance Arsenal are facing is his wage demand. He wants £200 000 per week, an amount which the club will surely not agree to implement for any player at this time. Maybe someone like Lionel Messi could get that if he joins us anyway. Lol.
Back to my story. As it happened that his demand was too much it seemed as if the deal was over. Speculations sprung up saying Arsenal are out of the race to sign him. The 27-year old was believed to have had talks with Bayern Munich during which an agreement to join them on a free transfer next summer was struck but this morning a talksport broadcaster, Stan Collymore confirmed the Emirates outfit are still very much in negotiations to see that Khedira makes a move to North-London.
Collymore took to his twitter account last night, assuring Arsenal fans that the club is still 100% in. He advised them to stay calm and shun rumours claiming the switch has stalled.
If one should go by Collyman’s reports then we can still be hopeful Wenger can use his tactics to lure Khedira to Arsenal. One other advantage we would have over Bayern is that Real Madrid, just like any other club who loves to make profit, will sell him to us for €29 million instead of losing him for no reward to Bayern Munich.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed and watch as things unfold. Will be back to let you know of any other developments.
For those who do not know, the Arsenal first team players are presently in Austria where they are holding their pre-season training camp. This is meant to prepare them for the Emirates Cup this weekend and the new season. Good luck to them!
