Arsenal to Host Saints in Capital One Cup as they Seal Champions League Spot.

Arsenal have last night sealed their 17th consecutive Champions League qualification with a 1-0 victory against Besiktas. Summer signing, Alexis Sanchez put his name in the club’s books by giving the Gunners the lead late in the first half. The goal is the Chilean’s first for the North-London side.

Arsenal Qualify for Champions League

Arsene Wenger’s men came into Wednesday's match being the side at risk because all they needed was a win. Had they lost or played a draw (not goalless) they would have said goodbye to this year’s European tournament. Why? When Arsenal visited Turkey for the first leg last week, they failed to score.

Luckily for them, they got the result even though they had a tough battle to fight. The away side were a hard nut to crack. They were more dangerous at the closing period of the game when Mathieu Debuchy was shown a red card after receiving his second booking of the night. That victory meant Arsenal have won 13 out of the 14 play-offs they have played since inception. They will have to wait till Thursday evening to know which teams will be placed in their group for the next stage of the competition.

On Tuesday, we saw Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe score twice in Milton Keynes’ 4-0 trashing of Manchester United. The lad came in as a substitute to ensure the Red Devils do not go any further in the Capital One Cup. Man Utd are really going down. I guess they will soon discover oil. Lol.

The fixtures for the third round of the Capital One Cup are out and Arsenal will be hosting Southampton at the Emirates Stadium during the week commencing 22nd September, 2014. We will get to know the exact date soon. Below is the draw in full.
