Wenger Denies Balotelli and Quintero Interests, Says Defender May Leave the Club.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed the possibility of his captain, Thomas Vermaelen leaving the club this summer after various speculations in the media have linked him with Manchester United.

The Frenchman yesterday said the Belgian international is not happy with his exclusion from the Arsenal starting lineup most of the time and is looking for a club where he will play regularly . His long term absence due to injury saw Per Mertesacker take up his place which now means he will have a tough time reclaiming that spot.

Should Vermaelen leave Arsenal then he would be replaced but Wenger is willing to see him remain at the club because to him, he is a very vital player.

"At the moment, Thomas Vermaelenis here, he is injured at the moment for a short-term injury," he said.

"It could happen, yes it's a possibility that he goes, if he goes we have to replace him because he's an important player in our squad.

"I expect him to stay but he, of course, did not play enough games last year. For me he’s a very important player but I couldn’t guarantee him the games he wanted last year."

Rumours of Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero being Arsenal’s next target have spread like wildfire. On Friday we read reports from some journalists stating Quintero was on his way to London to have his medical before signing on Monday. All these to Arsene Wenger are false and he warned against taking such information credible. He also denied having talks with AC Milan to sign Mario Balotelli.

"That’s wrong [on Quintero]," he said.

"For weeks we were buying [Mario] Balotelli from one minute to the other and it was all wrong. We do not master all the noises that come out.

"I don’t want to give you any names but at the moment we are not after anybody in particular. Are we close? It depends what you call close. What I call close is imminent. On that front, we are not close."

I love Wenger for something…….. He is never interested in any player. He told us years ago that he was not in talks to sign Arteta and Podolski but what happened? Lol!
