According to reports from the Daily Star, Arsenal are about completing two signings - one for a defender, another for a defensive midfielder.
The two players being linked with a move to North-London are Loic Perrin and William Carvalho.
Arsene Wenger is desperately in need of a defender who will serve as cover for Laurent Koscieny and Per Mertesacker and Perrin has been rumoured to be on Arsenal's radar. It was claimed two days ago that we are already in talks with St. Etienne for the capture of the French centre-back. £6million is what we are offering for Perrin.
This morning, the same source disclosed that talks were going well and that a deal for the 29-year-old is imminent.
The Daily Star also revealed that Arsenal's pursuit of a defensive midfielder is almost over. It stated that the Emirates Stadium outfit are already close to striking a deal with Sporting Lisbon for their defensive midfielder William Carvalho.
It's been long Wenger has been trying to get the Portuguese star to no avail but recently, the Frenchman got his interest re-ignited when Lisbon crashed out of the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese club have previously stated that they will not sell him for any amount less than £37million but now that they could not make it into the Round of 16 of the Champions League Arsenal are hopeful of getting him for a cut-price of about £25million.
As it usually is with many transfer news, it is difficult to ascertain if this very one is true or just a mere frameup. Nevertheless, we cannot deny the fact that we are lacking in these two area and if the deals eventually go through, it will be a boost for our title ambitions.
