Arsenal Give Gabriel Paulista His Jersey Number.

Villarreal centre-back, Gabriel Paulista who should undergo a medical [should have done that] and sign a deal with Arsenal today has been given a jersey number.

The Brazillian has been handed the same shirt number previously worn by Steve Bould, Martin Keown and Thomas Vermaelen. This same number was the one many Arsenal fans predicted he will get. It was just too obvious. It's the number 5 shirt.

Paulista had issues with his move all because he was termed 'ineligible' to get a work permit in the United Kingdom but reports this afternoon claimed that the issue had been sorted out. We now await a 'transfer successful' confirmation from the official website. Our manager said after our game yesterday that all will be concluded today.

The 24-year-old is a centre-back who can also play on the wings. Wenger believes he can do well in England even though he hasn't played for so long in Europe. Unlike some other Arsenal January transfers in the past, Paulista will be able to play in the Champions League this season as he has not played in any European tournament so far in the 2014/15 season.

“He is player who is 24-years-old, he has a good size, good pace and is a good defender. He plays only for one year in Europe, maybe there are some things to work on, but the potential is there, said Wenger.”

The Brazillian is expected to be named in Arsene Wenger's team to play against Aston Villa this weekend.
