Arsene Wenger Refutes Wojciech Szczesny Ban Claims.

Contrary to recent claims that Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny has played his last game of the season for his side, Arsene Wenger has stated that the stopper remains in contention for upcoming games.

Szczesny was reportedly caught smoking in the dressing room shower after the Southampton loss and told by Arsene Wenger that he will not play again this season but the Arsenal boss has come out to refute such claims by expressing his support for the keeper.

Arsenal will host Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and the 24-year-old is expected to resume in between the sticks after missing the Hull game in the FA Cup. He had talks with Wenger this week after which both came back to good terms. According to the manager, the worst he would get for that smoking incident is a fine.

Wenger further assured him that his selection would be based on his performance on the pitch and in training, not on any controversial occurrence.

Even though he has made one or two errors in the past, Szczesny is no doubt someone Wenger has always shown considerable faith in. This is evident in the fact that he promoted the Poland international to the number one spot at a time when he had the opportunity to sign Hugo Lloris about two seasons ago.

I do not think Szczesny is that bad anyway. Afterall he was the league's best alongside Petr Cech last season. He has got the confidence. A strong defence will see him perform better. At the moment, the situation at the back is giving him more work to do and as such, mistakes are bound to arise frequently.
