In his quest to strengthen the Arsenal back four, Arsene Wenger is close to signing Villareal defender Gabriel Paulista.
This news has got a strong possibilty of coming through as the Villareal manager himself has made a statement concerning the 24-year-old's move away from the club.
“I hadn’t considered selling Gabriel, it’s bad news from a sporting point of view. If both Gabriel and the club believe that his sale to Arsenal is the best for all parties, we will accept,” said Villarreal manager Marcelino.
Paulista who is expected to provide strong defensive cover for the shaky Arsenal defence can be trusted to save the Gunners from conceding too often. Arsenal will spend around £10million for the signing of the Brazillian ace.
Both sides have not yet released any official confirmation of the deal but the transfer is close to completion. Maybe before Monday, we will get to see it announced on the club's website.
If completed, this deal will be Arsenal's second since the January transfer window opened. Wenger has already signed Krystian Bielik who is a 17-year-old defensive midfielder from Legia Warsaw in Poland.
Paulista has made a total of 19 appearances for Villareal so far this season and out of those, he has helped his side keep eight clean sheets. Aside being a very good defender, he is also someone who is good at reading games. He is just as good as Laurent Koscielny, according to those who have seen him in action.
Considering the rate at which Arsenal players get injured, Paulista is sure to get adequate playtime at the Emirates Stadium. He could also feature frequently in cup games.
