Arsene Wenger has stated that Thierry Henry is under pressure to be controversial when on air even though it isn't his will.
The ex-Arsenal striker who is now a pundit at Sky Sports said not too long ago that the Gunners cannot win the English Premier League next season if they do not sign four more players. He went on to say that Arsenal will not win trophies with Olivier Giroud as their top striker.
Arsene Wenger did not agree with all these and according to him, Henry is only making such utterances because of the nature of his job.
“I think he’s wrong,” the Gunners boss said. “He’s paid for that. We know all the system now of the modern media, especially on TV. I know how it works. They push you to be controversial because they give you a lot of money.
“I can accept an opinion but the comment on Giroud was a bit more wrong, especially because I heard the same thing being said about Nicolas Anelka, about Thierry Henry himself and about Robin van Persie. And they all became world-class players themselves.”
The 65-year-old nevertheless admitted that he will have to make little changes to his squad for next season just like every other big team will do but made it clear that his current team needs no absolute change.
“That is the unknown quantity,” Wenger continued. “How much higher are the other teams going to go? Because you can expect Manchester City to respond. You can expect Manchester United to respond, Liverpool to respond.
“We are not in need of absolute change. We have a strong squad. We have some strong young players behind. We have a very big squad, so we need to lose some players as well. We have Lukas Podolski away, Joel Campbell. Yaya Sanogo will come back.”
