Arsenal forward has confessed regretting his action of demanding a move away from the Emirates last season which resulted to his loan spell at Inter Milan. Lukas Podolski is the man.
In a recent chat with Bild, the 30-year-old said he would have been better off sitting on the bench at Arsenal than going somewhere he is not familiar with. His loan spell wasn't the sweet type as he did not have enough opportunity to prove himself. He started only eight league starts for the Serie A club, a stat which does not justify the move. He left Arsenal so as to get adequate playtime but at the end of it all, the story still remained the same.
The German international has seen where he went wrong and is willing to make amends by remaining at Arsenal in order to fight for his place.
"I’ve always felt comfortable there", Podolski told German newspaper Bild. "With the fans, with the team and also with the manager. I’m going back to play, I have to say my qualities suit Arsenal.
“Inter? Last season went how it went. English football is the one which best suits my style but I know how suddenly everything can change.
“I have characteristics to help different teams but it was a mistake to go to Inter with no redemption clauses.
“In football there are times when everything doesn’t work out for the best. You’re not always playing as a starter and you just have to accept the decisions and work on your own game. That’s what I did but now I’m looking forward.”
Sometimes last month, Podolski said that he was going to stay and help the team and he has said that again but two days ago, Turkish source quoted him as saying: “I have agreed with Galatasaray, I want to leave [Arsenal].”
Confusion has now set in as we do not know which to go with but judging by the reputation of the sources who reported both news, it will be fair to conclude that he wants to stay. I am suspecting the report from that source in Turkey is fake.
However, it will be wise to just wait and see how it all goes instead of making illogal guesses. The window is not even officially open yet so one has to calm down a bit.
