Chile have won the 2015 edition of the Copa America after a tense battle which ended in a penalty shootout against Argentina. This is their first final in the competition and the first time they will be laying their hands on that trophy. 4-1 was the final score at Santiago.
Both sides had chances which they failed to utilise to the fullest during the match. Lavezzi and Aguero had two great opportunities and Alexis Sanchez could have scored twice. That's all history right now, Alexis is now a Champion. The work was done via a shootout as the game was still 0-0 after extra-time. Sanchez was the one who took Chile's last penalty kick.
This is the second final Argentina will be losing within the space of a year. In the 2014 World Cup, they were defeated by Germany in the final and tonight, the same woe came their way. Quite unfortunate for them.
It was not a splendid night for Lionel Messi who would have loved to win the Copa America in order to have an edge in the next Ballon d'Or contest. His side lost two of their penalties, thereby gifting the hosts their first ever piece of silverware on home soil.
