Arsenal Set to Give 4-Year Contract to Coquelin Replacement

Seeing the effect injuries have caused to his team, Arsene Wenger has admitted that there is an urgent need to make new additions by January.

One vital area attention has to be given to is the defensive midfield position. The Gunners lost their star man, Francis Coquelin to injury a while ago and ever since then, there had been no ideal replacement for that spot.

For this reason, Arsenal have reopened talks with the aim of signing Granit Xhaka from Borrusia Monchenglabach, This is according to the Daily Mail and other top sources.

The North-London side have shown interest in the Swiss midfielder for so long and have on different occasions sent out scouts to watch his progress. They were not so serious about getting him last summer but as things look, they now see him as a necessary utility to their title challenge.

Xhaka whose current contract at Monchenglabach spans till the year 2019 has impressed on the big front for his side, which is why he has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich who have both progressed to the last 16 stage of the Champions League.

An insider source disclosed that even though Arsenal have a host of players on their winter-transfer list, they are taking this very one as a priority as they are set to hand him a four-year contract as soon as he agrees personal terms.

The 23-year old has managed 39 caps for Switzerland and 137 league appearances for Borussia Monchenglabach.
