One of the host of players Arsenal was linked to during the most recent summer transfer window has given his view on why he could not complete a move.

Ricardo Rodriguez of Wolfsburg claims things did not just go in his favour, concluding that it was al the handwork of fate.

The 24-year-old Swiss international said: “I guess it was just meant to be this way. God wanted it this way.”

“You just need the right timing for a transfer and it’s a fact that during the transfer window, there were hardly any transfers of players in my position.”

£21.2million (€25million) was the price tag placed on him and the left back believes he is worth that amount.

“I am only 24 and I already have four years of experience as a regular in the Bundesliga and the national team, and over 40m euros has been spent on players with less going for them.

“To be honest, I don’t think any footballer is worth so much, but these are the mechanics of professional football.”.
