Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has taken the blame for the opening goal at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Juan Mata put Manchester United ahead when he slotted in a pull back from Andre Herrera in the 70th minute.

From the replay of the build-up to the goal, one could see Walcott hesitate in his defensive duties and that costed the Gunners.

The English international faced the press after the game and came out plain claiming it was all his fault that that goal went in.

“I’m just disappointed because my positioning on the goal was disappointing from my side of it,” Walcott told Sky Sports. “Because defensively I want to (cover that). I’ve been doing that all season.

“I knew that was my man to get in there. So on a personal level that’s very disappointing for myself. But the guys, they did well and we managed to get that point that we deserved.”

Arsenal were fortunate to leave the ground with a point, thanks to substitutes Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who scored and provided an assist respectively.

They will now continue their campaign with a game against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
