Serge Gnabry left Arsenal in the summer and we were all wondering why Arsene Wenger had to let such a talent leave.

The German midfielder joined Werder Bremen for a £5 million fee and has since then made a mark which has kept a lot of Gunners jealous.

Hostile comments flew from different angles recently when he scored thrice while on international duty as many football lovers felt Le boss made a very big mistake by selling the youngster.

Well, it was not the manager's fault afterall! The player himself has come out to clear the air by making it known that the club never wanted him to depart.

According to him, they tried their best to keep him but he forced his way through just to get regular first team action elsewhere.

He told Kicker: "It was the right decision [to leave Arsenal]. Everybody who compares my development over the last four months to my time in England before that can't come to a different conclusion.

"That was the main reason for the transfer - I wanted to get more playing time and it worked. Arsenal wanted to keep me, badly. But I had to look after my development.

"If a player does not perform well, a club has no sympathy and they do not want to keep him."

The 21-year old has netted a total of four goals in ten league appearances for Werder Bremen so far this season.
