Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman has hit out at Arsene Wenger for his failure to sign a world class striker during the recent summer transfer window.

He stated his disgust towards the manager while reacting to Arsenal's goalless draw against Middlesbrough two weeks ago.

According to him, the Gunners still need that man who will bang in goals tirelessly. He does not see Lucas Perez, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez as being competent enough.

“At the start of every season we discuss Arsenal’s transfer policy,” McManaman told BT Sport .

“I’ve said for years that I thought they should get a better centre- forward. They’ve brought in Lucas Perez but he hasn’t been playing.

“Olivier Giroud is injured. Alexis Sanchez has done well but I still don’t think it’s good enough.

“I think they should have bought a super-star centre-forward.”
