The international break is one hell of a period which club coaches and fans often do not like because of the negative updates that usually follow it.

Many a times, top players do not come back the way they left. While some return extremely fatigued, others show up with more complex fitness issues and this is something Arsene Wenger has revealed gives him and his crew sleepless nights.

The Arsenal boss stated that he has to keep on making contact with his players' national team coaches in order to know how they are faring.

“You’re always on the phone before the game, but especially after the game to see what happened and how they played. Did anyone come off injured, you wait for your statements from your physics because they are in touch with the national associations,” he added.

“We have an hour afterwards where we text each other, myself and the physics, to ask: ‘are they alright? Oh, we’ve got this injury, we’ve got that injury.’

“Before you start the game, sometimes you have a sleepless night because some of your players have been injured and sometimes you are angry because they play a friendly game, they are overloaded with games and instead of being taken off they play the full 90 minutes.”
