One of Arsenal's summer acquisitions will be leaving the club by January. It isn't what you're thinking right now. He will only be off temporarily.

Mohamed Elneny will join his national teammates at the 2017 African Cup of Nations which will take place in Gabon.

He will fly off a day after our game against Crystal Palace at the Emirates. Mali, Uganda and Ghana are the teams the Egyptians will face in the group stage of the tournament.

"He’s going to the Africa Cup of Nations on January 2," revealed Arsène Wenger.

"He will be in the squad against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day but after he will leave us to play for Egypt."

The Pharaohs who have won the competition on seven occasions will play Mali in their opening game on January 17 before taking on Uganda and Ghana on January 21 and 25 respectively.

The final comes up on February 5 (a day after our league game at Chelsea), so when he will make a return to Arsenal remains a mystery.

Elneny will at least miss games against Bournemouth, Preston, Swansea City and Burnley. He will miss more if they progress past the initial stage.
