Arsenal's last two defeats against Everton and Manchester City were heavily linked with the poor performance of Mesut Ozil.
Many hit out at him tagging him 'lazy' while some backed him up with the claim that the team's inability to hold possession affected the play of the World Cup winner.
In Martin Keown's view, there is no justification for the German international's disappearance in games as he implores Arsene Wenger to look for alternative roles for Ozil should in case the team is finding it difficult to maintain possession.
The Arsenal legend says Ozil has to work more on the defensive aspect of his game if the team is to make progress.
‘Mesut Ozil and Arsene Wenger need to work out his role when the team don’t have possession,’ Keown told the Daily Mail. ‘His work rate at Manchester City was not good enough. It looked like he was walking when Arsenal did not have the ball.
‘Ozil needs to be given more responsibility in winning the ball back when Arsenal do not have the ball against teams who are good in possession like City.
‘This question is rarely asked of Arsenal because they are usually so dominant in possession but it does not look as if Ozil’s role has been clearly defined when they do not have the ball.’
