Barcelona youngster Sergi Samper confirmed in a chat with Sky Sports that he rejected a transfer offer from Arsenal last summer.
According to him, he politely let Arsene Wenger know that he did not have the intention to leave the Camp Nou at that time.
The Spanish U21 international has had strong links with the Gunners in recent years and with his revelation, we were formally in contact to sign him before the completion of his loan move to Granada.
“I did not want to listen to [Arsene] Wenger. I told him clearly that I wanted to stay, I wanted to succeed at Barcelona, and what would make me happy was succeeding at Barcelona in the future.”
The level of his progress at Granada will determine if he will break into Enrique's team in the coming season. If things do not work out for him then Arsenal may renew their interest.
