Olivier Giroud is highly impressed with the scorpion flick goal he scored against Crystal Palace on New Year's Day but admits he was just fortunate on that one.

The Frenchman gave the Gunners the lead with a flick from Alexis' cross in the first half after missing out on an number of chances.

This has earned him praise from all corners of the footballing world and while he is happy about it, the former Montpellier man says it was a thing of luck.

'First, Alexis gave me the ball behind me, and I try to back heel and I have maximum luck,' Giroud told Sky Sports.

'That's just about luck, I was not in a good balance, but it's a great feeling. I wanted to score from the first minute from Nacho's (Monreal) cross when I was a bit short. It's a nice one for the team. I've never done this before, so it's all about luck.

'I tried to deflect it, in this position you can't do something else, I was lucky so it's nice for me and nice for the team. I think it's my best one.'
