Jamie Redknapp in an interview with the Daily Mail said that Olivier Giroud's scorpion flick goal was a lucky one and wouldn't get featured in his top 20 Premier League goals of all time.

Giroud put Arsenal ahead against Crystal Palace in the 17th minute when he sent in an unbelievable flick after connecting with a cross from the workaholic Alexis Sanchez.

That goal has since become the talk of the town with Arsene Wenger also stating also stating that it was one of the best five he has seen during his reign at the club.

Redknapp however didn't attach too much with the goal as he saw it as one of those strikes which came as a result of luck.

He said: "I am taking nothing away from Giroud but his strike does not make my top 20 Premier League goals.

"There is always an element of luck with those sorts of goals.

"As good as it was, I wouldn't put it in the same bracket Thierry Henry's volley against Manchester United, Wayne Rooney's overhead kick against Manchester City or Dele Alli's flick and volley last year against Crystal Palace."

Giroud already made us know how the goal came about here so there is no use trying to make it look as if he deserves no praise at all.

"Luck" they say was on his side but have they ever tried to imagine what might have happened had he not made that gamble?

I understand what's going on though. The goal was scored by Giroud and not some other dudes so they see nothing special about it.

It baffling that the pundit shoved off Giroud's while naming Wayne Rooney's back kick against Manchester City some seasons back will make his top 20 pick. That one had no element of luck? Hm!

  1. A striker job is to land the ball at the back of the net. It becomes a topic when it's spectacular and Olivia Giroud goal deserve this kind of discussion. I think Redknapp need to be more objective.
