Joey Barton has once again spoken on the chance he had to play for Arsenal some years ago.

The 34-year-old no-nonsense man has joined Burnley, our next opponents in the Premier League and this means he will be in contention to face us at the Emirates this Sunday.

As it usually is before any matchday, the midfielder was quizzed on their next opponent and it was during this time he revealed his links with the Gunners.

Flashback to 2011 when the Englishman had a bust-up with Gervinho in a match against Newcastle United and you will see why Arsene Wenger who initially had interest in him let the admiration die.

“No, intermediaries spoke on [Wenger’s] behalf,” the midfielder told Four Four Two.

“There was definitely some low-level interest, and before I got sent off against Arsenal, when the thing with Gervinho happened, I was due to hold some form of discussions with them. But then it never came to be.”

When Barton was asked if he would have signed for Arsenal at that time, he replied: “Would I have liked to have played for Arsenal? Of course. Who wouldn’t?”

For sure, Arsene Wenger wasn't as eager to sign him as this dude has made it look. I am of the opinion that he has used this as a way of placing himself on the high side. Joey who?
