Arsenal Move For Lucas Torreira Crushed?

At a time when we are all awaiting a medical and announcement for the Lucas Torreira transfer to Arsenal Football Club, we have been hit with claims from a source that all might not be as we think. Gosh!

Kike Marin while responding to questions from some Arsenal fans on Twitter fumed uncertainty over the switch of the Uruguay midfielder, giving a number of points to back up his assertion. You are confused, right? Well, I was initially more confused than you are because there have been lots of indications that Torreira is bound to play in the English Premier League when the 2018/19 season begins.

What then did Marin say? Knowing fully well that the midfielder is currently in Russia for the World Cup, it will be difficult to get him and his representatives down to London to finalise a move and the journalist is of the view that the Gunners could have made a U-turn on his proposed transfer.

Yes, Uruguay who Torreira is playing for in the World Cup have qualified for the round of 16 which means there is a tendency that he will remain there until July 15 should his team make it to the final. However, I do not see this as an obstacle. We have sealed deals even when the season had already begun, so why should the case of Torreira be different? We have got from mid-July till the end of the transfer window to sanction any deals we want to and if we are to go by earlier reports, the main part of the exercise has been completed and what we have left it just to conduct a medical and announce. All these can be done within one hour, so why the panic?

Let me not jump into conclusion but I am of the view that the news about a possible abandonment of the player recruitment is just one of those baits the media uses to get cheap attention. What else do we need to believe that Torreira is Arsenal-bound after the President of Sampdoria and Torreira’s best friend confirmed his exit from the Italian club and his move to Arsenal respectively?

The speculation about a withdrawal is in contrast to that from Fabrizio Romano that revealed that a medical for the player and the completion of a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos is imminent. The latter got confirmed by the club today.

Torreira impressed in his appearance for Uruguay against Russia (his first start in the tournament) earlier last week, and was in the squad that eliminated Portugal from the World Cup in their last 16 game last Saturday.
