Arsenal Sign Midfielder, Not Lucas Torreira

Time for Torreira was yesterday. Arsenal completed and announced the acquisition of Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria for a fee reported to be around £26 million. He became the club's fourth signing of the summer after incoming deals for Stephan Lichtsteiner (right back), Bernd Leno (goalkeeper) and Sokratis Papastathopoulos (centre back) were earlier sealed. Who's next?

I made an update here on Monday where I revealed that Torreira and one other guy would be undergoing medicals. The guy in question is named Matteo Guendouzi and you know what? He has put pen to paper for the club and is a bonafide member of Unai's red and white army.

You may want to ask what gave me such boldness to authoritatively state this when Arsenal have said nothing about it. Well, first, I watched a video which showed him signing series of documents at London Colney and secondly, I have pictures from the signing session. His current club has even been changed to 'Arsenal' on Wikipedia. The last evidence could be misleading at times but the others are genuine ones.

Guendouzi is a 19-year-old midfielder who plays for the French youth side. He joined Arsenal from Lorient having previously played in the Paris Saint Germain academy where he started his career.

His Lorient debut came in 2016 in a 2-1 loss to Nantes in a Ligue 1 match. In his debut season, he made nine appearances in all competitions as he saw his side demoted to the second tier. He was unable to help his side gain promotion back to Ligue 1 in his last season (2017/18) during which he played 21 times.

An official announcement for the future prospect and our fifth summer signing should come up today and even if it doesn't, you already know he is a Gunner. Wishing him all the best at Arsenal.
