Unai Emery Begins With A Bang As Arsenal Run Riot

Unai Emery began his era with a bang. I am talking about his era on the pitch as we have already seen his impact in some other areas like player recruitment coupled with changes to some traditions like his ban on mobile phones during meals.

Arsenal kicked off their pre-season with a friendly match this afternoon. Friendly match? I had to ask once again because I saw and still see nothing friendly in that scoreline. How on earth will anyone demolish a colleague in that manner and call it a friendly? Na Na Na! Lol.

The new boss who took off from where Arsene Wenger stopped managed his team to victory on Saturday as they faced Boreham Wood at Meadow Park. It was a goal riot which ended 8-0.

New signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos started in central defence as Aubameyang and Lacazette led the attack. Auba scored the first three goals, the third being a penalty, before Nelson and Lacazette added one each to make it five at half time.

Unai took off all players who started the game at the start of the second half to introduce fresh ones who contributed three more goals through Nketiah, Adelaide and Mkhitaryan.

We didn't play against a big team. Nevertheless, we still have to commend the boys who put in maximum effort to secure victory. After all we have lost to small teams in the past, so why should we withdraw our praise for them in this case? I have as usual managed to deal with some rivals who hit at me for talking about our win on Facebook. One asked "Who did they play?" i knew where he was heading to. It was not as if he didn't know who we locked horns with. When it's done by other teams, it's spectacular but when it's by Arsenal then it's nothing. I am used to such.

It's good we started well. Unai can now begin observing to see what will work best for us when the season eventually starts. A big kudos to him and the entire coaching crew for a job well done. Let's replicate this when we play against bigger teams in some other pre-season fixtures and during the fast approaching season.
