Why Arsenal Won't Sign Dembele This Summer, Legend Speaks

As expected, Arsenal may have turned their tentacles away from Ousmane Dembele who news have linked them with in the past few weeks and according to club legend Martin Keown, the transfer of the star this summer looks unlikely.

The French international and Russia 2018 World Cup gold medallistas a result of his gloomy first season had been a topic of a possible switch. We were even told that the Catalan club want Aaron Ramsey to come the opposite direction if the former Dortmund man is to join Arsenal. We talked about that here in a previous post.

The arrival of Malcom has reduced Dembele's chances at the Camp Nou and even if he is going to depart the club, Keown does not see him making a switch to the Emirates Stadium. In a chat with Starsport, Keown revealed that the amount spent to secure the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the last winter transfer window will be an obstacle in the Gunners' quest to acquire the services of the 21-year-old that Barcelona got for £135 million in 2017.

He feels that even as the fans are so eager for another marquee signing the club is being concious of financial regulations. Keown is of the opinion that after spending about €64 million on Aubameyang, the Dembele switch looks unrealistic.

Keown expressed high confidence in Aubameyang as he says he will 'tear up' the Premier League by the time the new season begins on August 10. The Gabon international has proven Arsenal wasted no dime when they bought him in January. His performance in his first few months is enough to show that he is a player to watch out for. He also impressed during the just concluded preseason, scoring goals in the first and last games.

The 2018 summer transfer window will close on Thursday 9th August while the season begins the following day. Manchester City and Chelsea who Arsenal ddefeated via a penalty shootout in Dublin last Wednesday will be their first and second opponents respectively.

Arsenal won four and lost one game in preseason. The loss was against Atletico Madrid (via penalty shootout). Wins were against Boreham Wood, Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and most recently Lazio.
