In life we all have choices. We can decide to take counsel from people and end up not acting by them and nobody will jail us for treading our own path in as much as it does not cause harm to a fellow.

That is what Unai Emery has done since becoming the manager to replace Arsene Wenger at the end of the 2017/18 footballing season.

According to the Spanish, he met with his predecessor at a time but his main aim of that gathering was not to get tips from the Frenchman.

He revealed that despite being supplied some information by the 69-year-old who he claimed to have high regards for, he still did not put them into use. Instead, he went for something different - his own way.

In a chat with Marca during which he also criticised Wenger for his neglect of the Arsenal team, the former Sevilla and Paris Saint Germain boss when asked if he spoke with Wenger said:

‘Not about the team. I met once with him, and little else.

‘I respect him a lot, but no matter how much info he gave me, I had to change things.

‘I told the players: “We started at kilometer zero”. Even now, four months later, I still say it: “We are in the beginning!”‘

Results in his reign so far has shown that Unai Emery will in no way regret his decision to do away with the advise of Wenger to go for what pleases him. He has had an impressive run in matches played so far with defeats coming only twice against Manchester City and Chelsea in the first two opening fixtures of the Premier League.
