Going by a revelation by football journalist Guillem Balague via his Twitter handle, negotiations between Arsenal and Barcelona as regards a transfer for Denis Suarez has hit the rock.
The transfer window opened on January 1 and if there has been any Arsenal transfer rumour that has made more wave in recent weeks, then it must be this one even though nothing has materialized off it so far. We already know the Gunners to be a side that get linked with players who they end up not signing.
Arsenal have lost valuable points especially to smaller teams owing to the fact that weakness still abounds in some areas of their squad. Even long-term injury lay-offs have set in. This has prompted fans to call for emergency recruitment this winter, a request Unai Emery said recently could be impossible except if that will come through loans.
In view of this, the North-London club according to reports have refused to meet a particular agreement tabled before them by Barcelona, thus, the cause of the delay in the deal completion.
Guillem Balague, a Spanish football analyst, in a tweet stated that the Catalan club has requested an activation of a permanent deal for the 25-year-old by the time the loan deal expires at the end of the campaign but all Arsenal want is a loan as they are not willing to take chances. They are scared they would be stuck and have no choice should the midfielder fail to meet up to expectations during the short spell.
Suarez seems not to be in the plans of the Camp Nou outfit anymore which is why they want to discard him with no option for a return. He has only managed to feature in six games in all competitions this season, all as a substitute and even though it is understood that he desperately wants Arsenal, Real Betis or Sevilla could be his destination as he has no other alternatives at the moment.
The addition of Suarez to the Gunners' squad has been predicted as one that will add strength to the team. Nevertheless, the club wants to play safe and do not want to agree to a term which will backfire and hunt them at the end of the day.
Is there still a chance he could make it to the Emirates Stadium this month despite claims by Guillem Balague? Time will tell since we cannot be so sure when it comes to matters like this. Do you think Arsenal made a wise decision in not yielding to Barca's clause? To me, they didn't. What about you?
