Denis Suarez says the approach of Unai Emery to games is not the same as it used to be some years back.
In January, the 25-year-old joined Arsenal on a season-long loan that could see him become a permanent employee under the management of his former boss.
Both worked together while at Sevilla in the 2014/15 season at a time when the side won the Europa League title. Suarez was there as a loanee from Barcelona.
Suarez's acquisition by the Gunners meant a return to the Premier League where he once plied his trade with Manchester City.
The Spanish international is aware of how tough the English league is and feels that could be why the latest Arsenal boss has changed his pattern a bit to suit the pressure.
“There are similarities [between Emery as a coach now and then] but he has changed a bit because La Liga is very different to the Premier League.
“Perhaps we don’t focus so much on combination play as we did in Sevilla, but it’s a mix of combination football and counter-attacking. That’s the difference. I think he’s changed in order to adapt to the Premier League.”
Suarez has not started any game since arriving in the winter transfer window but there is no doubt he is a part of Unai's plans for at least the rest of the campaign.
Arsenal host Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as they continue their quest for Champions League qualification.
They have only been able to make it to the Europa League in the last two seasons. A 3-0 win over BATE Borisov earned them a slot in the last 16 stage where they will face Rennes over two fixtures that will hold on March 7 and 14 respectively.
