Unai Emery revealed that he was confronted by Troy Deeney after the latter received marching orders against Arsenal on Monday night.
The Gunners had taken the lead in the 10th minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent the ball home following an error from Ben Foster.
The Hornets' woes increased moments later with their skipper getting a red card for an elbow challenge on Lucas Torreira.
Deeney protested as he moved off the pitch then headed towards the Arsenal coaching area to utter some violent words to Emery.
The Spanish boss after the game stated that he did not bother much about the aggrieved's utterances since he had an important mission which was to guide his boys to victory.
"I didn’t listen to him," Emery revealed. "He said something - it doesn’t matter what, it's not important - but I said to him 'I didn’t see it'.
"I didn’t see the red card. I respect the decision from the referee. It’s clear it helped us with the decision."
Arsenal were able to move back to the top-four spot with that narrow win and will be in action to improve on that on Sunday afternoon. Crystal Palace will be visiting the Emirates Stadium.
