UNai Emery Finds New Number 2 to Replace Petr Cech

Martinez Number 2 Arsenal

Petr Cech's departure from Arsenal leaves his slot vacant and for sure, someone else has to step into the void left by him.

The Czech international informed the world of his retirement at the end of the season and after playing his last game which was in the Europa League final against his former side, Chelsea, he bowed out.

This is why Unai Emery has reportedly made the decision to bring on his replacement, not from another club but among existing players.

It is understood that Emiliano Martinez has been promoted to number 2 meaning he will be acting as deputy to the main man, Bernd Leno.

This will be an opportunity for the Argentine shot-stopper who has been at Arsenal for nine years to get more playtime.

Prior to his loan move to Reading in January, Martinez appeared just once in the Europa League competition and ended up with a clean sheet.

The transfer helped his development as he managed a total of 18 appearances during which he recorded 5 clean sheets. His services ensured that Reading escaped relegation from the Championship.

If news of Martinez's promotion is true, then it is a prudent decision to make. The limited transfer funds in the Arsenal kitty would not be enough to get all needed outfield players, talk more of another goalkeeper.

His time has come and I am sure he won't disappoint.
