Carabao Cup: Arsenal 5-0 Nottingham Forest

Arsenal went through to the next round of the Carabao Cup following an emphatic victory over Nottingham Forest in their first game of the 2019/20 edition.

The coach employed a mixture of youth and experience on a night that saw the Gunners score five past their opponent.

It was also an avenue to welcome back Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin who both had been out of action since around mid last season. Thankfully, the duo came in to make impact straight off.

Kieran Tierney, our summer signing from Celtic also made his senior team debut for Arsenal having being sidelined since his arrival. Dude was superb too just like many others in that tie.

Even as we had more control from the early stages of the match, there was nothing to differentiate us from our antagonists until the 31st minute.

Reiss Nelson aimed a long pass to the right before Calum Chambers whipped it towards goal for Gabriel Martinelli to head home. That was just a tip of the iceberg from Chambers. We never knew he would go on to blow our mind the more.

In a bid to extend our lead, Emile Smith Rowe got himself injured, to be later stretchered off close to half time. Bukayo Saka then took his place.

Rob Holding made it 2-0 (assist by Nelson) in the second half prior to Joe Willock's goal from a Bellerin assist.

After feeding Holding, Nelson put his name on the score sheet and guess who was behind it. Chambers it was again. Hold on!

As if we hadn't piled enough woe on Nottingham Forest, Chambers once again enabled Martinelli to record his brace. It all ended 5-0.

It was nice to see a dedicated and focused team at the Emirates Stadium tonight. Even Mustafi was impressive. Kudos to the boys. I doff my hat for Chambers. It was his third game of the season. In all games he has featured for us this term, we have kept clean sheets. He should be a regular already.

We go into our next game with positive spirit. Old Trafford is our next stop by Monday. Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur played their first and last match in the Carabao Cup for this season.
