Arsenal Announce Double Permanent Deal + More

We are already in the month of June and ideally, this is the time a lot of transfer activities should be going on. Unfortunately, it isn't so loud on this front at the moment.

This is understandable. The season is still on as a result of the long and unexpected break caused by the coronavirus pandemic. What this means is that the transfer window for this summer will only be officially flung open when the campaign is concluded by July.

As we await that time, some clubs are already pulling one or two deals behind the scenes and Arsenal have not been left out of the party as they have handed deals to four players who are currently in their ranks.

David Luiz arrived the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea two windows ago. His one-year deal should expire at the end of this month which is why it became necessary to extend it by a year.

I am aware many of us would frown at this news for a similar reason but at the same time, it was necessary to do so as the ongoing season will span beyond the end of his previous contract.

The transfer window will open in July and without a new deal for him, the Brazilian who harmed us in our last two matches which was against Manchester City will not be able to play any more games for us this term. He will also become a free agent that way.

It's a wise move by the club in that even if we decide to let him go after this season ends, he won't be leaving for free.

Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares have also agreed to four-year deals that will strike out their current loan contracts once activated in July. In January, they both joined from Flamengo and Southampton respectively.

Dani Ceballos has also earned an additional period at Arsenal. Having completed a loan move from Real Madrid last year, he was expected to return at the end of this month but now that the season's schedule has been changed by COVID-19, his current contract has been adjusted to keep him with us till the end of the Premier League campaign.

Arsenal technical director, Edu, expressed delight over the new development, saying that the manager has got them as part of his long-term plans.

According to the club, the deals are subject to the completion of required regulatory procedures.
