Arsenal Win 2020 Community Shield

Arsenal have lifted the 2020 Community Shield by beating Liverpool after a penalty shootout at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Coming fresh from the FA Cup win which qualified us for a place in this year's season curtain-raiser, we fielded  a very young side with a little bit of experienced legs.

Surprisingly, the expectations of many prior to the start of the encounter between the contenders didn't come their way being that Mikel Arteta was able to stir his side past the league defending champions.

The win made it our second trophy in the space of 28 days, a good sign and motivation for greater feats.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started the party not long after it seemed like the Reds had gone ahead through a goal that was rightly ruled offside. Our very own capable captain sent a curling shot past Allison, thanks to a nice delivery from Bukayo Saka efforts from a counter. That was in the 13th minute.

Again, the provide for the first orchestrated a move that could have given is a second goal but upon reception, Eddie Nketiah could not do much to trouble Allison who was there to pull a low save.

Liverpool were on top close to the end of the first half during which Virgil van Djik and Sadio Mane created chances which were were quashed by our agile defenders.

Mane got another attempt to redeem his team. This time, Emi Martinez was quick to rush out to the challenge. Klopp introduced Takumi Minamino and he grabbed them the needed equaliser.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw at regular time to be settled by penalties. For Liverpool, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Minamino and Curtis Jones all scored but Brewster couldn't.

Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Cedric Soares, David Luiz and Aubameyang scored from the spot and it was 5-4 in our favour. 2020 Community Shield Champions we are. That's our 16th in the competition so far.
