The last few weeks have seen Nigerian youths come out in mass to demand an end to police brutality, oppression and exploitation through a campaign tagged 'EndSARS'.
For days, they occupied major spots in states across the nation in a bid to make their voices heard by the government. The group vowed not to backoff until the needful is done.
It was while these peaceful demonstrations were ongoing that some men of the country's military headed to one of the locations, Lekki Tollgate in Lagos, to shoot sporadically at peaceful protesters.
The anti-democratic act staged by the Nigerian Army on the night of Tuesday October 20, 2020 led to the death of innocent Nigerians while several others were injured in what is fit to be called a massacre.
The bloodshed in Lekki and some other location has since put citizens in a state of agony and as several entities are lending voices, Arsenal have done same by reaching out to every Nigerian.
This was done with a tweet on microblogging site Twitter. It reads: "To our Nigerian fans, we see you, we hear you, we feel you."
"We have read our replies. We have seen the footages. We cannot imagine the pain. Our thoughts are with everyone in Nigeria. Stay strong, stay safe."
The solidarity message from Arsenal has met mixed reactions. While some praised the London club for showing care, others stated that it came rather late.Â
There is a third group which attacked them for being hypocritical. They wondered why they chose to support Nigeria but distanced themselves from comments made by Mesut Ozil in support of persecuted Uighur Muslims in China.
