Arsenal Experience Double Ugly Scenes After International Break

It has not been impressive on all front for Arsenal since the last international break ended. From a 3-0 home loss to Liverpool to a 1-1 draw to Slavia Prague all in the space of five days, one will wonder what exactly is going on in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Coming fresh from the break, the Gunners welcomed Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium in an encounter that everyone attached to the club will want to forget so soon.

It was not so clear who was in control of the match in the opening 15 minutes but the visitors later stamped their authority to show that they are actually champions.

The Reds forced us to our half and stole more of the possession. We were a shadow of ourselves going forward and it was not as if we even had chances that much. In fact, only one showed up for us in the first half against Liverpool’s six. Worse still, we lost Kieran Tierney to injury.

Klopp’s men took the lead through substitute Jota’s super header from an Arnold cross that was too much for Leno to handle in the second half. Salah added to our woes few minutes later when he tossed the ball in between our goalkeeper’s legs.

Liverpool’s third was as a result of an error while trying to play from the back. In an attempt to pass the ball out, Gabriel hit it but it got snatched and worked back towards goal for Jota to make it two to his name and three for his side.

It could not have been worse for us as we got stranded at ninth spot. Our next hope was supposed to be in the Europa League but again, we put ourselves in a very tight situation.

Being the first leg of the quarter-finals that held on our own ground, a wide-margin win was the ideal result we longed for. Unfortunately, we ended up giving advantage to our opponents pending when we will be going over to their place.

It was a case of one getting what he wanted very late and then still blowing up the gotten item shortyly after. Pepe came to our rescue with just four minutes to the end of regular time but that would not still save us as we conceded an equalizer in the 93rd minute of the game.

The Czech Republican side have the edge over us at the moment and only a good fight can give us progress to the next round which is the semi-final. Next for us is Sheffield United in the Premier League this Sunday then we head out for Thursday’s Europa clash.
