Arsenal Win Yet Another Trophy as Ladies Triumph Over Everton.

The Arsenal Ladies team have emulated their male counterparts by winning the 2014 edition of the Women's FA Cup title, their thirteenth so far.

Arsenal Ladies Win 2014 FA Women's Cup

On May 17 Arsenal men won the FA Cup to end their nine years wait for silverware as they defeated Hull City 3-2 at Wembley to claim the trophy for the eleventh time. Yesterday, Sunday, the female side trashed Everton 2-0 after a thorough battle which saw them emerge as the tournament's Champions for this season.

Kelly Smith's freekick put Arsenal in front before Yukari Kinga scored a second for the side.

Everton came close to getting an early lead but the Gunners were so lucky as Nikita Parris fired over. Arsenal woke up from their slumber and within a space of one minute, they got two chances of changing the scoreline. The first came when Yankey saw a fierce drive cannon off the inside of the post and away to safety. Not quite long after that, Shinobu Ohno picked out Smith inside the box but the captain dragged a first-time effort wide. They did not need to tarry for ages to open scoring. Carter was fouled 20 yards from goal in the 15th minute and Smith did well to curl a shot into the top corner. That goal was her sixth in FA Cup finals.

Everton were almost back on terms six minutes later when Millie Turner got in front of her marker to head over from close range. Nonetheless, it was Arsenal who made most of the runs and with the presence of  Danielle Carter and Yankey, a lot of pressure was put on the Merseyside ladies.

The second half kicked off and Arsenal were still dominating. In the 51st minute, Smith fired another shot which was saved by the bar. Half a score minutes from then, the Gunners extended their lead after Smith connected to a long ball, showed great strength by holding on to the ball despite a challenge from Gabby George and later set up Kinga who planted a low shot into the corner. Kinga became the first overseas player to score in an FA Women's Cup final.

Chances upon chances came for both sides as the game progressed but none changed the scoreline. At the end, it was Arsenal who were victorious.

This is the secod time Arsenal will win an FA Cup double with the men having also won it in the men's category. Congratulations Ladies! We are proud of you.Wishing you all the best as you prepare to kick-start another WSL season.
