We have some goodnews for you this morning. It's concerning a transfer deal which Arsenal have gone far with. This is not Vidal's, Patino's or Fortune's. Let's see who.
Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Martinez Jackson ahead of a potential move to London this summer, reports a Portuguese newspaper, Jornal di Noticias.
The Porto striker has had links with the Gunners in previous years but at that time, the interest seemed not to be so intense. At the moment, Arsene Wenger has reportedly activated his €35million release clause and will commence further talks with the concerned parties.
The Colombian international signed a new deal last year which brought down his buy-out clause to £25million and with that, Porto are believed to be willing to cash in on the striker before the start of the coming season.
With an agreement already in place with the player, Arsenal will try to make a reasonable bargain as we have always known Wenger not to splash too much cash on players. He buys according to his own assessment of any of his targets.
It is no doubt that Wenger has been a long term admirer of Martinez. He made the rumour mill go noisy in February after praising the 28-year-old. From experience, whenever the Frenchman praises players who he isn't having a game with, then you know he is planning something.
‘Martinez has top physical strengths, Wenger said.’
‘Hugely efficient, he is the kind of player who can make room for himself in the box.
‘He could play in the Premier League because he has the body to make the difference. He uses it in a very intelligent way. Very short back lift and he’s a very good finisher.’
‘He’s on the list of many clubs, you know that. He will be the next big transfer who will give a big smile to Pinto da Costa [Porto's owner].’
Martinez has scored 32 times and laid down 7 assists in his 42 appearances for Porto this season so you can see why Wenger is after him. We currently have an issue upfront and the addition of this guy will really turn things around for us. He will help bang in lots of goals and create competition for Olivier Giroud who has failed to score in his last eight games.
